PASSING

The ability to pass is important when a team wants to maintain possession. When we have possession, the other team is chasing. It costs a lot of energy to run without the ball. It costs less effort to keep the ball in the team. Teach your players patience and playing simple.

Exercise 1:

  • Area: 25x 25.
  • Groups of 5-7, 2-3 balls per group.
  • Always move to the next cone.
  • Don't wait for the ball, step to the ball.
  • Keep the ball inside the cones.
Passing Sequence #1: 1 passes to 2. 2 receive/turns, and passes to 3. 3 receives and passes to 4. 4 receives/turns and dribbles home. Continuous exercise.



Passing Sequence #2: 1 passes to 2. 2 checks and drops back to 1. 1 passes back to 2. Same combination 2 and 3, 3 and 4.




Passing Sequence #3: 1 passes to 2. 2 drops back to 1. 1 passes diagonal to 3. 3 drops to 2. 2 passes diagonal to 4. 4 drops to 3. 3 passes back t 4. 4 dribbles home.

  • Area: 20 x 20.
  • Groups of 5-7, 3-4 balls per group.
  • always move to the next cone.
  • Don't wait for the ball, step to the ball.
  • Keep the ball within the cones.
Passing Sequence #1: 1 passes to 2. 2 receive/turns and passes to 3. 3 receives/turns and dribbles home.



Passing Sequence #2: 1 passes to 2. 2 drops back to 1. 1 passes diagonal to 3. 3 dribbles home.



Passing Sequence #3: 1 passes to 2. 2 drops back to 1. 1 passes diagonal to 3. 3 drops to the incoming 2 for a quick wall pass.

  • Area: 40 x 25.
  • Groups of 5-7, 3-5 balls per group.
  • Always move to the next cone.
  • Don't wait for the ball, step to the ball.
  • Keep the ball within the cones.
Passing Sequence #1: 1 passes to 2. 2 receive/turns and passes to 3. 3 receives and passes to 4. 4 receives and dribbles home.




Passing Sequence #2: 1 passes to 2. 2 drops back to 1. 1 passes long to 3. 3 receives and passes to 4. 4 receives and dribbles home.




Passing Sequence #3: 1 passes to 2. 2 drops back to 1. 1 passes long to 3. 3 drops back to 2 for a quick wall pass. 3 plays to 4. 4 drops back to 3 for a quick wall pass.




Passing Sequence #4: 1 passes long to 3 (in the air), 3 drops the ball to the incoming 2 for a quick wall pass. 3 plays to 4. 4 drops back to 3 for a quick wall pass.




Exercise 4:
  • Groups of 5.
  • 1 ball per group.
  • Pass and follow your ball.
  • Touch restrictions.



Exercise 5:
  • Groups of 5 or 6.
  • 1 ball per groups.
  • "Relay Race".
  • One server facing the team. Each team member has to become a server. Server passes to 1. 1 passes back to server and moves to the back of the line. Server passes to 2. 2 passes back to server and moves to the back of the line etc. Which team will finish first? You can do this with the pass, volley, chest/volley and head.



Exercise 6:
  • Groups of 5 or 6.
  • 1 ball per group.
  • "Relay Race".
  • The ball has to be moved from one end to the next.
  • 1 passes to 2. 2 to 3. 3 to 4. 4 to 4 and vice versa.
  • Each player has to receive, turn and pass.



Exercise 7:
  • As above.
  • 1 passes to 2. 2 drops back to 1.1 passes to 3. 3 drops back to 2. 2 passes to 4 etc.


Exercise 8:
  • the "Chipping Game".
  • Area: the width of the field.
  • In pairs, 1 ball per pair.
  • Zones across the width of the field.
  • Player chips the ball to her partner, she tries to catch the ball. Both players need to catch
  • the ball before you can move into the next zone.
  • First team to get across the field and back wins.


Exercise 9:
    The "Crossbar Game".
  • Area: Find a goal without a net.
  • Two teams, across from each other, about 18 yards from the goal.
  • Players try to hit the crossbar from 18 yards out.
  • First team to get 10 points wins.
