1 vs 1 GAMES

Exercise 1:
  • Area: 10 x 20
  • In pairs, 1 ball per pair
  • 1 vs 1 line soccer.
  • Each player defends a line and attacks a line.
  • Score by dribbling across the line under control.



Coaching points:

  • Defensively - Sit low, one foot in front of the other, contain, don't dive in, defensive fakes, wait for mistake.
  • Offensively - Control the ball, make a strong move, change of speed to beat the defender.
Exercise 2:
  • Area: 10 x 20.
  • In pairs, 1 ball per pair.
  • 1 vs 1 with small goals.



Exercise 3:
  • Area: Half field.
  • In pairs, 1 ball per pair.
  • 1 vs 1 to one cone.
  • Both players attach and defend the same cone.
  • Players have to be within 5-7 yards of the ball at all times.



Exercise 4:
  • Area:12 x 20.
  • In pairs, 1 ball per pair.
  • Each player attacks and defends two cones,10 yards apart.
  • Emphasize change of direction on offense, making play predictable on defense.



Exercise 5:
  • Area: 25 x 25.
  • Groups of 3, 1 ball per group.
  • 1 vs 1 vs 1.
  • Each player defends their own goal, and looks to score on the other two goals.
  • Emphasize change of direction and change of speed.



Exercise 6:
  • Area: Half of field.
  • Each player has a ball.
  • Two goals plus keepers.
  • Attackers (A) take on the defenders (D), who defend the line between the cones.
  • If you beat the defender, look to finish on goal.
  • If you lose the ball, you become a defender.
  • Continuous exercise.

  • Variation - Add a player who functions as a "wall". Attacker has the option to go 1 vs 1 or use the "wall" to beat the defender.



Exercise 7:
  • Area: Half field.
  • 1 vs 1 situation on the wing followed by a cross.
  • Two goals plus keepers.
  • Attackers (A) take on defenders (D), who defend the line between the cones.
  • When you beat the defender, cross the ball.



Exercise 8:
  • Area: 15 x 20.
  • Groups of 4, 1 ball per group.
  • Two target players at ends.
  • 1 vs 1 in the middle.
  • Try to get the ball to the targets.
