GSSL Gameday Procedures
GSSL requests that referees be familiar with the following procedures, in addition to the GSSL Rules of Competition.

  • Please ensure that all goal frames are anchored securely – report deficiencies.
  • Please inspect the playing field for any safety obstructions – report deficiencies.
  • Please strive to complete your team check-in prior to warm-ups to avoid having to interupt team warm-ups.
  • Please be sure that all players and coaches have laminated passes issued for the teams that will be participating in the match that you will be officiating. Check the team name on each pass.
  • Prior to each match, please be sure to get a match report from each team. One report is for your records the other is to be mailed to the match secretary.
  • Prior to each match be sure to get an envelope stamped and addressed to the match secretary. You are at liberty to refuse to start the match until it has been provided.
  • Please ensure that the match report is completed following the match and that all hand-written comments and names are legible.
  • Please be sure to add the names (not just the numbers) of players who are issued yellow cards.
  • Please include telephone numbers of the referee and assistant referees on the match report.
  • Please mail match report promptly following the match.
  • When necessary, please write reports of players and coaches that were sent off. Mail those reports, along with match reports and player passes, to the disciplinary chairperson within 24 hours of the match. Norcal Gameday Procedures
Referees officiating Norcal Premier League games in the winter or spring should familiarize themselves with new paperwork forms and procedures. A sample gameday packet is downloadable here, and more information is available at the Norcal website

Norcal Rule Clarifications:

* U8-U9
Game lengths: 2 x 25 minutes with a 10-minute halftime
Ball Size: size four ball.
Number of players: 8 v 8
Field size: Length: minimum 50 yards / maximum of 90 yards long - minimum of 35 yards/maximum of 60 yards wide

* U10
Game lengths: 2x30 minutes with a 10-minute halftime
Ball size: size four ball.
Number of players: 11 v 11
Field size: Length: minimum 90 (100 yds), maximum 120 m (130 yds) Width: minimum 45 m (50 yds), maximum 90 m (100 yds). Recommended - 100 by 60
Regulation goals - 8'h X 24w

* U11
Game lengths: 2x30 minutes with a 10-minute halftime
Ball size: size four ball.
Number of players: 11 v 11
Field size: Length: minimum 90 (100 yds), maximum 120 m (130 yds) Width: minimum 45 m (50 yds), maximum 90 m (100 yds).
Regulation goals - 8'h X 24w

* U12
Game lengths: 2x35 minutes with a 10-minute halftime
Ball size: size five ball
Number of players: 11 v 11
Field size: Length: minimum 90 (100 yds), maximum 120 m (130 yds) Width: minimum 45 m (50 yds), maximum 90 m (100 yds).

* U13

Referee Registration
USSF referee registration for 2008 is now closed. 2009 Registration will begin in the Fall.
